Rebuilding With Humour
Rachel Oliver has completed her second book arising from her experiences following an accident in 1997 that changed her life, leaving her with broken arms, legs and a brain injury. She is known to many as the author and artist behind Really, Im Fine, a book of cartoons and off-the-wall observations of her own recovery, published in 2002.
In this new book she takes a closer look at the emotional and motivational factors that have influenced her recovery and success as she explores the new and different person she has become. She directs her incisive and sardonic observations at the world of hospitals, rehabilitation professionals, insurers and lawyers in which survivors find themselves. She also points her gaze inward, probing the complex, confusing and sometimes conflicting set of fears and motivations she experienced.
Survivors of a brain injury, or any traumatic, life-changing event, will see themselves in this book, and Rachel hopes they will be inspired, motivated, or at least amused by what they read. Family members, therapists and other supporters will also recognize and perhaps better understand the struggles and absurdities that survivors face.
Rachel believes that laughter is one of the best ways to dissolve the barriers that prevent understanding, insight and self-acceptance. She invites you to laugh, think and grow along with her!
